Hydrogen
Transitioning to clean energy can only be a reality through international collaboration and strong partnerships. Hydrogen plays an important role in our transition to a more sustainable future. As an alternative to natural gas, hydrogen creates new opportunities for grid balancing, seasonal storage and as a carbon-neutral fuel in virtually all modes of transport. The Netherlands is eager to partner with the UK to seek out opportunities and exchange ideas for the large-scale production of green hydrogen. Hydrogen is one of the 10 priorities set out in the UK’s 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution, with a target to generate 5GW of low-carbon hydrogen capacity by 2030. In its recently published hydrogen strategy, the UK shows its commitment to building a low-carbon hydrogen economy that will not only open many job opportunities but will also make significant strides towards a greener planet. Only by working together, the UK and the Netherlands can solve the similar challenges they are facing around producing, importing, distributing, and applying clean hydrogen in various sectors.
